I Want Something

This weekend was crazy long and filled with absolutely no work (sadly). It started with an overnight trip to Pasadena with a buddy. It's always fantastic to see a little into a friend's life or past. There we met the members of the band Torches. What? You haven't listened to them? I suggest you do (here is I Want Something).

Post-Pasadena, and Friday I had a night with a roomie and buddy with beer, Carl's Junior (did I just admit to such a crime?), and a kick back.

Saturday I had a lady date at a local sandwich shop followed by a movie. I cannot say enough how lucky I am to have women like this in my life. Albeit a new addition, I am deeply grateful to have met her. Name twin, passion parallel, and the perfect match of reality and dreamer to myself.

Sunday consisted of brunch, a party (wa-hoooo!), barbecue, and catching up with old friends. And today? A finished PB&J cheesecake. Om nom nom.

Just One Second

I wish I would just get going and download some of the music I wish to share on this blog with you. It just doesn't seem fair to post up a YouTube video and call it a day. So, I suppose a lot of that will be going on in the immediate future (downloading, not video sharing).

I find it interesting how you'll enter moments in life that call for major self-reflection. This past year+ I seem to be doing a lot of that. Throughout, I have learned a lot of lessons.
  1. People will not always like you - no matter how much you work at it, plead, cater, whatever.
  2. I am not much of a person to believe in 'fate' because, well, it's that little voice of realism that continually sticks with me. However, in past few months, I've noticed quite a few things that have challenged that. People, situations. Hence why I am taking such a different path in life than I thought, and so lucky to recently have made the friends that I have.
  3. It's okay to get lost for awhile, but don't just sit there and hide from navigating your way to who you want to be.
  4. I love California.
  5. Get off your rear and do something. I all too often remained at home throughout college. Now, every opportunity that I get, I am off to go do something and see someone. Similar to that whole 'fate' thing.

I was going to put a Broken Bells song up for you today, as I sat here listening to it and typing. But this oldie but goodie that continually gives me a sense of euphoria (and yet nostalgia) is what I will introduce to you instead.

It's called Just One Second by London Elektricity. The title of this blog is based off of it. Every time I listen to it I think of the mornings I spent in San Francisco looking at the puffy white clouds lifting off of the smoke stacks as the sun came up. It was a daily experience as I was driven to school in the early mornings where the cool air would wake you up and squeal in excitement as the heater would finally kick in and blast in the car.

--> Too much writing. I apologize.

Katie

In my late night delirium I've decided to update. How's that for working early on a next day post? 30 engineering drawings later (SolidWorks and AutoCAD have me borderline wanting to vomit), and I am pretty spent for the evening.

Today as I walked home I spotted this pig cruisin' the neighborhood and returned her to her respectful owner. Meet Penelope. She's quite the oinker.

Anyway, I am now a featured user on Snip.It for my music selection, so check it out! I am very honored, that's for sure.

With that said, here's the song "Katie" by Wildnerness Survival. You can access their music here. This song is particularly sweet to me, not just because of the title, of course. I am almost a little sad to share this band, I think they're my secret music treasure at the moment. But I'll do anything to help them out, because they're fantastic. "Seems to me it'd be best if we just grew up and grew old"

Get Going

I really shouldn't blog before bedtime. As juvenile as that comes across, I am now utterly exhausted from a semi-sleepless night. But, I suppose it's good that I feel excitement for the future of this and many other things.

Going on from over the weekend, the birthday girl and I made some delicious homemade lemon curd and lemon/honey/chamomile cookies to go with our specialty teas (mine being Green Goddess) from the Secret Garden. I'll miss you so, you delicious little tea store, you.

I suppose I should start getting off my rear end to take some non-instagram photos - but this is just really convenient when you're balancing a million things and don't remember to take your camera EVERYWHERE. No excuses though...

The eclipse yesterday was radical, yes?

Anyway, this song is Get Going by Headlights. It's been a terrific element on the thesis writing/defense preparing playlist. I found it from the Madewell Denim Tour playlist. The soft guitar and odd humming noise at the introduction of the song keep me relaxed. It reminds me of just rolling down the car windows and taking a really lazy drive around in the warm sun. Oh California, how you influence the way I think. Anyway, here it is.

Houdini

I think I am finally back! This past weekend was insanely busy. Birthday celebrations are exhausting, apparently. So much wine and champagne, too.
I look like my mother in this photograph. Ha.

So, as we approach the week, I have this song stuck in my head (Houdini by Foster the People). I just want to dance around to it. I am pretty over Foster the People in general... but I really enjoy this song. Do you enjoy the music shares? I have a few to recommend from now on. Could you imagine just dancing around like a bad ass to this song? The quick lyric adds to fun of the song

Additionally, check out Snip.it - you can access my articles under "Katie Clayton" -- it's really cool. Don't say I didn't tell you.

Hiatus

Hi All,

Sorry for the long break. I have been not only busy with school, travel plans, et cetera, but I've been thinking of how I want to establish this blog.

I am well on my way, but still looking to entirely revamp the layout you are currently looking at.

I apologize for the wait to those of you that read this. It's coming back soon!

Yours,

KTC

And our new friend Nala the Counting Kitten. Meow.

P.S. - If you wish to follow me by other means, you can see what's going on via my Instagram (@suchalibertine) or my Twitter account (@smellofsunrise).

Sense of Self

I'm a living paradox, and I've come to be okay with that.
