You and Your Research

"It is a poor workman who blames his tools - the good man gets on with the job, given what he's got, and gets the best answer he can."

An interesting read, indeed.

Lack Concentration

I'm lacking in concentration and therefore, in my procrastinating state, I am updating! Hip hip hooray.

Things that make today wonderful?

  • A newfound love for my iPad
  • Talks on NPR about: CRISPR, Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi, and Isaacson's new book 'The Innovators'
  • This sweater of mine
  • Dark chocolate covered almonds
  • Coffee
  • Colorful leaves on the trees

What's a pain-in-my-butt?
  • Reading articles from Small (I dislike the layout of this journal so incredibly. Ah!!!!)
  • Zeta potentials
  • Sleepiness

Cool story. Back to work I go.

Graduate School Sadness

I think graduate school can be an entirely awesome and fulfilling experience. People complain over lack of sleep, difficult classes, daunting research. I love it all.

But what I don't love at this particular university and in this program is the treatment of students by the professors - particularly when they have to TA. They hold this over the graduate student's head like a threat. "Do as I say or leave graduate school because you're too poor to pay."

When has "TA" become synonymous for "servant"?

Starry Nights

Last night Matt and I went to the Starry Nights festival here in town. Every year the event seems to be a way to invite the fall season in West Lafayette. When we were walking amongst the live music, twinkly lights, and crowded booths we stumbled upon a merchant selling handmade journals. When I came across a restored Black Beauty novel-gone-journal, I was in awe. The colors and decoration on the cover were just so beautiful. And (surprise, surprise) Mr. Amazing Matt bought it for me. :)
